RECEPTION OF MR. HOLLOWAY AT ROXBURGH.
A Committee meeting in connexion with the reception of Mr. Holloway \t as held at • Mr Brighton s Commercial Assembly Room, ' Roxburgh, (ii Monday evening, the Cth i instant. j Mr Manuel having heen called to the j chair : It was pvoj used hy Mr Mackay and I seconded by Mr Leighton, 'I hat the Secretary be instructed to telegraph to Mr Malar ban, Mayor of Queenstown, requesting him to telegraph to the Committee, Roxburgh, the probable date of air Holloway's arrival hero. Carried. Proposed by Mr Burton, seconded 1 y Mr Birch, That, immediately the Sceietary receives information, he be instructed to convene a meeting of the Committee, to decide what steps shall he taken to rtceive Mr Holloway, and to meet and accompany him. Carried. Proposed by Mr Heighten seconded by MrCormaok, arm Tarried, That the Secretary communicate with the Government, expressing regret at being infoimed that Mr. Ireland, M.P.C., has received intimation from them, stating that the block of agricultural hind on run No. 352, promiaid to he thrown open by Messrs. Bastings and Turnbull, on behalf of the Gi.vcnnmnt, and also favorably repented upon by Mr M‘borrow, on their behalf, will not he opened up in trims ef such premise, and asking reasons for such unexpected and inconsistent proceedings Proposed by Mr Mix' ay, scorn’elhve MrAnduson, I hat tie Cemmittic have a detailed statement prepared for Mr Holloway of the inducements made to inteiuling settlers, and the obstructions made by the Government, with a view of publishing the same. Carried. Proposed by Mr Woodhonse, seconded by Mr. Amhrson, and carried, That the Government be asked when it is tneir intention to throw open the blocks of land of run No. 199, promised by them to be opened for sale on deferred payment, and favorably leport d on by Mr M'Kcrrow, the C ovemmeut surveyor, and also suhsequently promised by Messrs Turnbull and Bastings. Proposed by Mr Bit eh, seconded by Mr Burton, That the newspapers he supplied with copies of . the above resolutions. Carried.
