A WESLEYAN MINISTER’S SALARY.

A singular case came before the Merthyr Board of Guardians lately. The Kev. Dr. Young, Welsh Wesleyan Minister, had been applied to by the relict ing-officer of Gellygaer parish for a contribution towards the maintenance of his mother, who had been in receipt of parish relief for several years. The rev. gentleman wrote a letter in answer to the officer in which ho stated that in consequence of the Small stipend which he received from the Wesleyan Society, he could not give anything towards his mother’s support without impoverishing and embarrassing himself. Foi four years—probation term—he had been getting only 4Of. a year. Twelve months ago he emerged from that blissful period of his existence, and was put on a higher scale, His stipend now was !)of 12s per annum; hut out of that he had to pay 2lf. a year rent ai d taxes of circuit house, 51. 10s. travelling expenses, Cf. to the Circuit Itinerant Fund, and 9f. 1« : s to other funds in connection with the society, so that he really had but a trifle over If. a week to find himself and family oi four in the domestic requirements of living, and he had had a deal of sickness in his house. The Guardians thought it was an extraordinary statement to receive from a minister, and while wishing to do nothing which might pauperise himself, they would do their duty to the ratepayers l>y offering the nun her the option of the house, in the hope that it might prompt the Church of which her son was a minister to do something for her.—Bristol Daily Post.
