evidence.. r ■■ Mr. Gillies stated that the section 117 would have been applied for by Marie in the first instance had he properly known the lav of the coal. Mr. Stout Stated that the petition presented by Mr Gillies was signed by Marie’s agents, and by a large number of miners. There were few names of business men o’i it. After some further lis-Mission. the Board de-dde-l tba‘ the evidence before them was insufficient that a second coal-pit was required. Mr. Strode said they did not think much of either of the petitions. If another coalpit was wan t ed, let the Council pass a resolution to that effect and lay it before the Board, when the matter would be reopened. An app’icatinn by John Perriam to purchase land on Run 245, near Cromwell, on 1 reported against by the District Land Officer, "bo. however, recommended that the applicant shouM be allowed to purch -se tbs few acres around h's bouse. The report was referred back witba request for further particulars.
