ALEXANDRA SCHOOL.
The Annual Statutory Meeting of Householde s was held in the School Rocm on 'Monday, the 12th hist., at 7 p.m. A goodly muni er put in an appearance, of whom Mr. Robert Mercer was elected to the chair.
The business of the meeting ha' ing 1-een stated, the Chairman of the retiring C< mmittee read the following report■ “ Your Committee have much pleasure, in making their report, in stating that during the Se«sion ot !S>73, the woik of the School has gone on veiy satisfactorily, the average attendance beii g about the same as the year LS72, namely between, eighty and ninety, and the School fees paid on the whole veiy regularly. “ During yem Ct n mittee’b turn of office our late Scboo mlsticss, Miss Phaser, tendcied her icsignatioii, owing, we believe, to the Government having reduced the salaries of the Schoolmistresses Id/, Your Gnminit’ee wailed on her, and asked her to reconsider the matter, and that they would make up the salary to its farmer
amount ; but having accepted an appointment at Green Bland, .-he declined.
“ In answer to an advertisement inviting applications for the office, wo received three applications, Miss Bruntm being the one chosen, and whom v.c trust gives entire satisfaction.
“ The contract entered into i'y our predecessors for the extension of (ho Sch -ol building has been completed, giving ample accommodation, MBs Brunton instructing the junior classes in the new additions.
‘ Your Com mitt re lias laid out the sum of 7/ in repairing School fence during the year; but would recommen I lint, when any further repair is necessary (which will not he for some time), a stone fence should be erected. The Committee has also purchased two cooking-stoves tor the icielenccs of the teachers ; and provided the school with black board and other furniture. -
‘ The mount of School fees was 158/. Bs. with the sum of 13'. I.ls. outstanding debts, making a total of 172/. 3s. during the \ear, and there is only the sum of 9/. 2s unpail during the Se-sion. “In conclusion, your Committee would sincerely congratulate the district on tiie prosperous and highly satisfactory state of the School, which is owing, no doubt, to the efficient management of the teaches; and. in retiring fiom < fiice. it is our earnest wish that the Scho >1 should pm-per in the present year as it has in the pist.” Afte" discussion, the report, as read, was adopted. The following gentlemen were thereupon elected :—Messrs, Theyeis, Fivers, Calder, Terry, Kohertsnn, M‘Donald and Mercer. The raee’ing was dissolved wiih a vote of thanks to the Chair. —o— A meeting of the new Committee was subsequently held. Mr. William Thoyers was elect’d Chairman and Honorary Treasurer, and Mr. K. Mercer; Secretary
! The meeting nights were fixed for the first Tuesday in every month. | After discussion, it was resolved. That a suh-Committee,, consisting of Meters. Thcyers and Mercer, wait on Mr Heid, the Schoolmaster, respecting School fees. I The meeting then dissolved.
