ALEXANDRA.
(COMMUNICATBn.) Ou Wednesday,' the 26th ultimo, Mr. Clapcott, Travelling Siib-Qommueicner for the Government Life Insurance, gave a lecture in the Atheweum on the above subject. The Mayor, W. Beresford, Esq., p-esided, and ntroduced the lecturer. The attention paid to his (Mr. Clupcott’s) remarks, and the criticisms passed afterwards, must have been as pleasing as they were complimentary to that gentleman. Mr. Clapcott laid great stress on the a t vantages offered by the Government to persons insuring with them—such as the low. ness of the premiums ; the protection of policies effected for the benefit of the insured’s • Tandy from seizure under the bankruptcy laws ; and especially the nonfuifeiture clause, by which, in case a man fails, through any cause, to pay his premium when due, the policy does not become forfeited after a few dais’ p act!, as is usually the e se, but is kept open for the man for as many years as he has paid annual premiums ; and, should the man dio while the policy is thus kept < pen, it will be paid by the Government as though all necessary payments Lad been made, simply keeping back from the amounts the premiums the man ought to have paid and six percent, interest on them. Thus, as the lecturer pointed out, it was impossible for a man to be compelled to permit his policy to lapse After the lecture, Mr. Clapcott favored the audience with selections from hie IVpu'ar Readings.” Of these 1 can only repeat what has been already said ou every occasion on which Mr. Clapcott has read before the public, that they gave most unqualified satisfaction to all. We would urge all who get the' chance, whether they care about the subject of life insurance or not (if any such there be) to avail themselves of tde opportunity of hearing Mr. Clapcott. They will find the lecture delivered in a familiar style ; not at all dry, as some would imagine ; but short and clear, and then will follow the “ Readings,” and of these we can only say the more ihe better. On Monday last Mr. Clapcott went to Spear-grass Flat, remaining tnero till Tuesday evening, when he delivered a lecluro to an attentive and (for an agricultural district) a numerous audience. Ou Wednesday, Mr. Clapcott again returned to Clyde, and on Friday (to-day) he proceeds to Black’s, where he will lecture, in the School House, on Saturday. He will next visit Tinker’s, and during the foij lowing week he will proceed to D'-yhread, ! St. Batban’a, and so on to Naseby, where he will remain until Christmas.
