At the Adelaide Local Court on Wedn snesday, July in the unsatisfied judgment case of Ann M'Arthy v. W. O’C umor, defendant, who seemed rather drunk, 1 mailed easily into the witness-box, and the following colloquy took place Clerk— "Your name?” Defendant, carelessly— “ Connor.” Clerk—“ Christian i ana ?” Defendant, wildly—“ William.” Clerk—“ What are you!” Defendant—“ About half a moulder.” They calls me a moulder well, perhaps I am.” (Laughter.) The [Special Magistrate—“ Are you married?” Defendant—“ Wed, yes ” Special Magistrate—- “ Steady?” Defendant— “ Not altogether, you see I have an occasional s ree now and again.” (Laughter.) Special Magistrate —“ Is your pn sent couli'ionyour average state.” Def aidant, reflectively— “ Well, res, about.’' Sjecial Minis'rate—” Have y m any property?” Defendant, cheerfully -Property! No,' no w to my name.” Special Magistrate—“ Have you e.ver been hare before!” Deb ndant—“ No Well, yas, I was here once, but the Court keot me in too long, and 1 left.” (Laughter.) You left for refr slim irs, I suppose!" (Laughter.) Defen hint, dryly got tired and want.” (Laughter ) “What do you eai ii?” Lefenda t—“ I neverwork for less than ten abiding! a d i.y.” Spo’al Magistrate—“ Then you are a good workman ” Defendant, modestly—“ suppose so.” Special Magistrate—“ That, is when you are sober?” Defendant— “ Yes ; that’s hotter.” (Laughter,) Confidentially, “ Well, you know, 1 do have au occasional spree, amigo on the burst for a week or so. A man can’t work for ever. (Laughter.) If you will a’low me to explain this matter—why Mrs. M'Carthy is chasing me. I have been a drinki ic: man. and I tried to got out of a difficulty. Make a reasonable order, and I will submit to it.” The Special Magistrate-I will make a reasonable order—one tint, will just suit your present condition. Y.n will e imprisoned for thirty days for not paying whilst you bad the means.” Defendant—- “ Thank you, Sir; that’s just, what I expected.” The Special Magistrate—“ Then you’ll not bo disappoint© 1.” Defendant—- “ No, not a bit.” (Laughter.)
