WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The usual wecekly meeting was held on Thursday, the 9th instant. The following business of any importance to our readers was transact e 1 : - The Distiict Land Officer, Clyde, reported the refusal of Messrs Campbell and Low’s application for pre-emptive agricultural lease on Run 214, ami asked if they had now forfeited their right to apply for a lease. The question was referred to the Provincial Solicitor. Mr. Stout appeared for the Scandinavian Water-race Company, which objected to the safe of the township of St. Bathan's. He stated that the Company was opposed to the sale, as it was believed that the g -ound was some of the richest in the district. Mr. Bastings sail the Government had no desire to sell, and that the propos d sa’e was the result of a petition to that effect. He further staled that, on the occasion of h : s visit to St Bathan’s, with the Superintendent, he hail met a deputation of the Millers’ Association, and at that time uo objection was made ; but probably they, as was commonly the custom, had altered their minds since The matter was referred to the Board of Inquiry, to make an exhaustive examination of the case, and to report thereon. Letter from the Town Clerk, Queenstown, together with a copy of a res dntion objecting to a water-race license being granted to Mr. J. Robertson from One-mile Creek to Queenstown Also a letter from Mr. Turtnri, Mr. lb bertson’s solicitor, in support of his application. Mr. A. ]•'. Reid also appeared for Mr. Robertson. The Board resolved to forward Mr Turton’s. letter and the rest of the correspond' n e in the case to the District Land Off! er for his opinion as to the correctness of the statements ti.eiein contained. Letter from the Town Clerk of Queenstown, intimating that the Council had no objection to Alexander Boyne’s aj plication for a jetty license opposite Block XXV. Granted on the usual rates and terms. Application of J. Bryant to purchase section 1, Block XI,V., Queenstown. Applicant to wait the quarterly sale. Request of Mr. John G'Callaghan, that his deposit of 51., made on application fo>' a coal lease at Cardroua, should lie returned, the ground not having proved payable. Refused. Mr. E. Manuel asked that his application to purchase his garden, at Coal Cieck, should bo sanctioned, without his being ] ut to the expense of appointing an agent, Postponed. Application of Mr. L. D. Nichol, asking that lie may be allowed to exchange his application for section 77, Block VIL, Tuapeka, for another piece. Granted. Mr. Bastings, on behalf of the Government, asked the Chief Commissioner to ment, asked the Chief Commissioner to furnish them iu fume with all eon e:nplated land sales, with a view of greater publicity being given to them. Mr. BnUenvorth said that the Government “Gazette” was frequently Complained of as a medium of advertising. He thought that 50l)(., for advertising, would bo money well spent. The Chief Commissioner said he had always done what Mr. Bastings had now requested, and that he should continue todo so.
