MR. PLLMSOLL.
A correspondent of the “ Inverness Courier” writes thus : Mr. Plimsoll has very much the appear, anco of a Skye terrier. They say every human being has a likeuess more or less marked to some one or other of the lower animals, and Mr. Plimsoll’s type is that of the Skye terrier. The whole aspect of the man is that of pluck and determination——a kind of wiry grip about him for which we can find no other comparison. He told the Edingburgh meeting a very pleasant story of how his better-half, when the probable loss of worldly goods was held up before her, was not daunted ; and to tho further suggestion that the crusade might end in a jail, replied, “Thenlwdll visit you as long as the regulations permit.” That was something like a wife : a helpmeet for Mr. Plimsoll in his arduous campaign. The general idea is that he has exaggerated his case, and raised opposition when he might have got assistance. But his own ;dea is different. The half-dozen actions at law (he holds) are sincerely regretted by those' who have raised them, as really calculated to expose the iniquities of the traffic more. At the Leith meeting there was just a very faint manner of dissatisfaction on with one of his statements; whereupon Mr. Plimsoll illustrated our comparison by metaphorically fixing his teeth into the in. trader, and giving him a good shako.
