THE LAKES DISTRICT.

—o (from our correspondent.) Ap-rowrowN, Aug. 12. Political no .vs s the cnlyj newsjworth sending at the resent tim i. As you all must be av are at the Dui star, our member in the General Assun'>ly having thrown us all overboard, we are now busy electing another in bis steed. At one time it was a matter for conjecture who we could get to represent us ; but, instead of being compelled to bold out superior inducements for an eligible person to come forward and accept our suffrages, there is a very brisk demand i n 1 cons derabla competition for tbe votes oi the Wakatipje’ectors. There are now four gentlemen offering us their services, in the persons of Messrs. Vincent Pyke, G. B. Barton, Henry Mauders, and Alexander luuo>. {At pres nt it is almost impossible to say who shall win us, or rather whom we shall have. Mr. Vincent Pyke has a very good chance. His Goldfields experience is largely iu his favor; he is also well known, and he possesses the great recommendation of being a good talker. Mr. G. B. Barton is very well supported, more particularly so at Queeustown, and should have a good chance. Mr. Henry Manders, everyone knows, [and it is quite unnecessary for mo here to recapitulate his accomplishments. The Wakatip district certainly owes Mr. Manders a very great deal, espccialy Queenstown; but whether they will repay Lis exertions on their behalf by returning him to tbe General Assembly is aqu stiou that the ballotbox will decide. Mr. Alexander limes, while representing the district in conjunction with Air. Hallenstcin, earned the good opinion of almost every one iu (lie Arrow division, and I should not wonder if his friends succeed in placing him at tbe head of the poll. If the Arrow people are united, this will most assuredly be tbe case ; but time alone can tell So far as venturing an opinion at present, I must place Mr. limts’s chance at the top of the tree.
