CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday evening, the 30th inst. Present : J. U. Cambridge, Esq., Mayor, and Councillors Naylor, Marshall, Auckland, Beck, and Cox. Thq,iuward correspondence, cons'stingof the following letters, was rea l and received: —From the Town Clerk, Alexandra, asking for the co-operation of the Clyde Corporation in the endeavor to have the expenditure of all sums of moneys on the estimates for the maintenance and repair of roads leading to and from the municipa towns veste I in the various corporations ; from the Provincial Under Secretary, acknowledging receipt of petition auent a new Court House at Clyde, and stating that a sum of money has been placed on the estimates for that purpose , from the Chamber of Commerce, accompanying a petition to the House of Representatives, praying that the Bluff he the first port of call for the English Mail. Several telegrams from Councillor Hazlett, M.P.C., were also read and laid on the table. Resolved, That the letter from the Town Clerk of Alexandra he replied to, to the ' iffect that this Corporation concur with the suggestions contained in the letter, and will communicate with the Government on the subject. The Mayor stated that the petition relating to the mail service had keen name

The Mayor said, before he 'retired from office he should like to see the- half-yearly balance sheet, and, as it was not ready, he would adjourn the meeting until the following evening.
