OPHIR.

(FK3SIA C OJRRESrOXDEKT.) June 11. Mr. T. L. Shepherd addressed tlie electors hero last night; there was a very good attendance. He spoke for about two hours in his customary manner, carefully avoiding any question of interest, and trying to gull the electors as usual, buttou-ho'ing miners and others at all corners, but 1 don’t think his little game will go down this time. At the close of his address a few questions were asked, but as all of them were answered by him in an enigmatical way, the people thought it was as well to leave him alone. One question was—Since the last election, what good had been done for the Dunstan district ? lie said, ho had got the new School-house for Clyde, and a new Courthouse for Cromwell. He was also asked, on which side ho voted in the late crisis in the Council ? Ho said that, there was’no division, and he would not say which side ho took, whether ho took either or not. At the close of the meeting, it was proposed by Mr. J. W. Macintosh, and seconded by Mr. G. Walker that, Mr. Shepherd was a fit and proper person to represent the District in the Provincial Council. An amendment was proposed by Mr. Fitzgerald, and seconded by Mr. Thompson that, Mr. Shopherd was not a lit and proper person. The original motion was carried by a majority of two. He proceeds to the principal part of the Dunstan district to day, viz., Tinker’s Gully. As far as I can learn, the majority of the electors will support ■ Mr. Hazlett, and it is the general opinion that Mr. Hazlett will bo returned by a large majority.
