It Geelong, recently, a most determined suicidcTook place. A warrant was sent against a laborer name l-Tlobert HendersonThe police proceeded to ids -. residence at Ashby, in ordorjto arrest him. His wife said ho had gone out, - and . would lie in shortly. A search! was made, and bo was found in the 'closet hanging’-by his neck, with his feet'six inches from' the ground. He was quiteylead. It would appear that he bad made a noose with some wire used for binding telegraph insulators. (He bad been engagedfju painting telegraph posts.) He then lied *his hands behind him; and jumped of. The wire was attached to the ridge-pole of the closet. The following shocking case of suicide, the Ovens and Murra;/', Advertiser states, occurred at Hurdle-flat, near Beech.worth.
An elderly man nafbed John Jones, a minor, residing in the above locality, Jwas yesterday morning found lying;dead in his bed, his face and -head covered with blood, by a neighbor named Thomas Chapman, who had called on him. Chapman at once gave the
alarm, and, accompanied by another resident of the place, returned to the hut. On a table close to the bed where deceased was lying was found an empty pistol with an exploded cap on the nipple, and a razor, the handle and blade of which were covered with blood. Subsequent examination of the body showed that a portion of the lef; cheek had been blown away, and it almost appeared as if Jones had first attempted suicide by cutting his throat, and then in desperation placed the pistol in his mouth, and tired the shot which caused his death. Deceased had been for some time ailing, and had been an out-patient of the Ovens dist.ict hospital. His' 1 condition seems to have preyed on his mind, as he'hadrthrown out hints to Chapman, who frequently visited him, as to his intention of making away with himself, but the latter had made light of the threads, naturally thinking that the remarks were the result of petulance caused by sickness and poverty.
