The Mayor said his attention had heen drawn o the had state of the X< vis load, his informant stated that the expenditure of Government votes for the road had in previous years heen under the c ntrol of the Corpora’i n. As he was no aware of what ha I previ -usly been do ie, he brought the matter before the Council to elicit inf '’mation. 0 inn illlor IT zlett said such had been the ease, ami he suggested that. Mr. Hews, the District Road Engineer, ho applied to for permission to expend such moneys on thcroal as is neve sary. The i'ow-. Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Hews on the subject. The Mayor said the striking of the rate was the "ext matter hr consideration lie thought it would be bettor to pos'pone i till the next m siting of the Council, when ho hoped a full Council would be in att n lance. Postpone 1 accordingly. The Toani Clerk said he had applied to M'ssrs Co b and Co. for arrears of v.aterrato. Ho tinders'cod the linn denied tluir liahili’y, and he now asked for further instructions. Resolved, That the matter he placed in in the hands of Air. F. J. Wilson, solicitor. The Public Works Committee were in. strutted to invite ten lers for the repairs of the roof i.f the Town Hall. The Superintendents Recap' ion Committee reported that, in connexion with the late visit of his Honor the Superintendent and Mr. Horace Bastings (Secretary for Goldfields), tVy ha I expen led the sum of 131. ISs. Resolved, That the report he adop’e 1 and tdie amount paid. The Standing Orders were now suspended The Council formed themselves into a Comm ttee of Finance, and recommended the paym nt of accounts amounting to 32f, Is. Gd. Mr Facho made application to leasMunicipal Sections Xos. 38, 39, 48, and 4, Block XI. The Town Clerk was instructed to make a minute of the application. A vote of thanks to the Mayor cene tided the meeting.
