THE RAILWAY QUESTION
(to tiis editor of the duxstax times ) fir, —I am grieved, astonished, surprised, disgusted, horrified, in short, completely flabbergasted, to think that you should turn the vials of your wrath on the dhfuterested people of Lawrence for so trifling a matter as their desiring to have- a railway all to their own cheek. Can you nave forgotten Sir, the numberless benefits wo owe to Tuapeka, particularly in taking charge of nearly all the Gold-lields revenue which might otherwise have been muddled away in making roads and bridges in this insignificant corner of the world. You must allow it has been much better employed in beautifying,] and improving the city of Lawrence with an Atheuavum, Courthouse, hospital and School aud in making roads and culverts for the buggies of the Tuapeka nobility, not to mention commonage for the cattle drawing the saw buggies to depastu o on. When so much has been permitted it is hardly worth while letting the last strain excite our indignanatiou. * Better peak at once, confess our sins, aud receive a full remission under the Corporation seal of Lawrence. After that it would be as well to include the whole up-country districts in one grand Tuapeka County, end rase to the ground Roxburgh, Alexandra, Clyde, Cromwell, and such other places as have dared to compare themselves with our natural metropolis! - ;, — Lawrence. I am, &0., OLD GROWL. Mount Benger, Nov. 13, IST—.
