ALEXANDRA.

0 (FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) Oct. 16. Two epidemics Lave brokeli Out hero during the last week, but no very serious results are anticipated. The sympkms are not very severe, and it is confidently expected that time will shortly effect a cure. The first, ns being the most impressive must have priority, I must call the operatic Jems. This first made its appearance in the shape of a gentleman named Westropp, who ■was succeeded by a perfect inundation of O’Brien’s and Glover’s. The first named was viewed with suspicion by many, and a fitting location for him not being available, he had to give place to the latter party, who quickly secured quai-ters, and set to work. O’Brien and party played to good houses on Monday and Tuesday evening, and gave such general satisfaction' that they’ were requested to give another entertainment as soon as their arrangements would allow. The second epidemic may be denominated “ Coal on the Brain,” for what, with Paget, Milne, Charnack, Thomson, and M-Donald, all and every, one of whom profess and claim to he purveyors of the only good coal in the district ; the unfortunate consumer of that indispensable article is at his wit’s end to know which to choose, and, in the case of t-he’’gentler sex, they are in such a state of perplexity that they almost dread to ’’pnrchvse eo.d at all, iu case it should net be the sight. On Saturday evening next an entertainment will be given in aid of the school funds, and as the local talent is pretty considersl le, and will be ably augmented hy Mr. Westropp vve may reasonably expect to see a full house, and also to be able to show a good round sum for the cause of education. As regards mining affairs, there is iu reality nothing to report; that is, good finds. The Ovens Company are currently reported to have bottomed on a duffer, not a particle of the glittering metal having been discovered. The non-suecess'of’this company is the more to lie deplored, as they have, for mouth after month, struggled against difficulties .almost unsurmoun’able in the seeking the long lost lead of Bedford Butler, and party, and it does certainly' seem hard that their labor his been in vain. , Still the company have a large stock of pluck and perseverance, and I hope eventually it will be handsomely rewarded.
