ALEXANDRA.

—o—(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) On Saturday evening last \he Gift Bazaar, in aid of the funds of the Dunstan District Hospital was resumed with equal ►pirit as on the pro ;eding Tuesday, giving most satisfactory results. The total realise ! was somewhat over 75k, evidencing not alone the liberality of the residents of Alexandra, but that money is not s i scarce as the croakers aver. I have witnessed many bazaars in my life, yet, I doubt if ever I witnessed such determ nation as was on this occasion shewn on all sides to render the gift worthy of acceptance. Mr. Chappie performed his dty with the utmrsc spirit and with energy unabated by hours of incessant talking. To the last ha was equal to the occasion. For the past week the Bazaar has been the principal theme of conversation, beyond which little has been touched upon. On Friday evening last, the 27th ult., a moat pleasant re-union took place at the Criterion Hotel, the occasion being the departure of Mr. Alexander Jack from this district. About twenty gentlemen were present. The handsomest things were said in the pleasantest possible manner, and every one felt happy, During the evening the Chairman (M. R. Findlay), on behalf of many friends, presented the guest of the •cVening with a handsome gold pencil-case, and in a short and telling speech, expressive of good-will, bade him farewell : to which Mr. Jack replied in a suitable manner. On Wednesday meriting, the 2nd hist. ,the death of Mrs. Letts, the wife of a shareholder in the Hit or Miss Company, took place. Mrs. Letts for some time had been an inmate of the Hospital, Of mining news there is nothing stirring. The Ovens Corny, are sinking in their new paddock, and battling vigorously with the many difficulties that beset them, but they have faith and perseverance. They deserve to be richly rewarded, Business is dull, money being scarce.
