September 17. At a meeting of the Opposition to day Mr. Fox announced his resignation of le idership, but will give active support, and stick firmly to those long identified with him. Agreed that Fox should still lead, until the Stafford ministry was ousted from office. A want of confidence motion Mr. Vogel proposes. Unanimously agreed that the country wants a more specific statement, that given being vague and unsatisfactory. A new ministry would embrace Vogel, M'Leon, Hall, and the Premiership offered to Waterhouse, if he would accept. Reynolds’s resolution of two Provinces, with M’Andrew’s ame idraent agreed to be withdrawn.
A Maori member explained Stafford’s views of native affairs, was only in'ended to seduce Maori members, I e never knew of such conduct by the late Government of promises not to be fulfilled.
The Opposition ore united. Strange Williams receives Moorhouse’s appointment.
Vogel has given notice to introduce a Municipal Corporation Water Works Bill, to save Municipalities applying separately for private Bills.
