A writer in the Nelson Mail says: - Newspaper proprietors have receive I a god practical lesson wi bin the last day or two. It may be embodied in a very few words Ifyi.u a-e anxious that your invistnwnt shall pro> e a profitable one, support the Ministry ; through thick and thin s’andl y your friends, and they, holding as they do the colonial purse strings, will see that you have your reward. If, on the other hand, you have not undoubted faith in the Government of the day ; if you venture to differ from them with regard to their po icy or administration, why, don’t expect much of their, or rather of the public money, for if, poor deluded mortal that you are, you venture to think that yon have as g-od a right as your Minister-supporting neighbor to the loaves and fishes, you will indeed speedily discover your error. Glearly, it dues not pay to think differently from the powers that be, or at all ev* nts. toTexpress yoar thoughts if they do .not, Coincide with tilths. Newspaper proprietors, whether yon think they oio right or wring, always support the Government! Such is the moral conveyed by that precios list rial by Mr. Collins in the House of Kiprosenlulives.
