CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Council ■was held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday evening, the 2Sth inst, at 7 p.m. Present, —John U. Cambridge, Esq Mayor, and Councillors Hazlett, Patterson. Feraud, Marshall, and Auckland. The minutes of the last Regular Meeting, held on the 6th inst, of the Special Meeting of the 14th inst, and the Emergency Meeting of the 15th inst., were read and confirmed. The inward correspondence, consisting of the following letters .—From the Colonial Secretary’s Office, regarding the election of J U. Cambridge as Mayor ; from the Provincial Treasury, intimating tha' the amount of subsidy due, 1951. 9s. 3d. was placed to the credit of the Municipality ; From J. Tyrrell, asking the Council to have the road made at the rear of West Ward, and four others—were read and received A report from the Inspector of Nuisances was read and received. The outward correspondence as follows; To the Town Clerk of Christchurch, asking information relative to the sinking of Artesian wells; To titS Provincial Treasurer, and three others, were read and adopted. A general discussion ensued on the formation of a street at the rear of the West Ward. It was eventually resolved that the request of Mr. Tyrrell be attended to, and that the Public Works Committee be requested to ascertain the probable cost of making roads at the rear of West and East War's, and make their report at next meeting. Resolved, That the Public Works Committee be empowered to carry out the recommendations contained in the report of Inspector of Nuisances. Applications for the office of Town Clerk were opened as follows, from Mr. T. Stanbrook, Mr. R. Poole, and Mr. A. Moore. After some discussion ;it was icsolved, that the Town Clerk be elected by open voting, on which plan it was conducted with the following result, Mr. R. Poole, 3 ; Mr. 1. Stanbrook, 2. Mr Poole was declared duly elected. Councillor H azlett was elected member of the Public Works_ Committee, vice Cr Brough, resigned. Cr. Marshall said his attention had been drawn to the state of the Town race, that complaints were very general; theyaee was not only getting too shallow, thus flooding every low place in its course, but it was, for want of proper care, becoming the receptacle for every kind of rubbish. A*fter some further remarks it was resolved that the Town Clerk communicate with Holt on the subject. The Finance Committee’s report, recommending the payment of the following accounts, was adopted. —W. Auckland, 31. Bs. Sd. ; Dunslan Times, 31. 18s. ; Town Clerk s Salary 41. 3s. 4d. ; and sundry accounts. 2/. 11s. Cd. Notice of motion by Councillor Feraud That this Council, without delay, take into their consideration the construction of a bride across the Molyneux river, within the boundaries of the town, by either promoting a company, the Council guaranteeing interes at the rate of per cent, per annum, or by the issuing of debentures redeemable in in years, bearing per cent, per annum'mterest. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
