CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
—u A meeting of the Council was held ia ( Council Chambers, on Tuesday afterno last, the lith instant, at 3 p. m. PresentJ, U.,Cambridge, Esq., May, and Councillors Naylor, Patterson, Ferai Marshall, and Auckland. The minutes of the previous monthly, 4 of two special meetings were read snd a, firmed. The inward correspondence, consistim letter from Mr. James Holt, relative to ( diversion of town race for the purpose driving the water wheel at his. upper shat was read and received. The outward was read and adopted. A discussion took place -on the lell from Mr. Janies Holt, eventuating Councillor Marshall proposing, seconded! Councillor Feraud, That a sub-commit) he appointed to confer with Mr Holt up the matter of the water to his new wi# and with power to expend £ in the cc struetion of any race or other work tk may he necessary for the work. Carried. Proposed hy Councillor Marshall, second, by Councillor Auckland, That Counpillo Feraud, Patterson, and Naylor be appoint, a sub committee to carry out the forego!, resolution. The Council now proceeded to the elects of Committees and Officers for the jes Finance Committee, Councillors Nay! Feraud and Marshall. Public Works Co, mittee, Councillors Auckland, Patters, and Brough. Proposed by Councillor Naylor, second, by Councillor Marshall, That applicatim be called for the office of Town Clctl sa'ary 50/. per year,by advertisement iutk Dunstan\Tmes, applications to be sent! by Wednesday, the 14th of August. Ci lied. Proposed by Councillor Marshall, second, hy Councillor Feraud, That tire Auditoi fee he oue guinea each for each audit. Ci ried. Proposed by Councillor Feraud, second, by Councillor Naylor, That Messrs.,oliv, and Hueston ba appointed Auditors fort! year ending Ist ofAugust, 1873, the fee; he 2/. 2s. each for services. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Marshall, second, hy Councillor Auckland, That Coastal! Madigau be reappointed Inspector , Nuisances, salary 10/, per annum. Carried Tenders for metalling bunderland-stre, were now opened, eight itr all, the tender, Thomas Hannon imd Co., being accept, for carting and spreading at the rate of oa shilling and nine petree per load of tweet square feet. Proposed by Councillor Auckland, seconds hy Councillor Marshall, That the rneetiii of Council hefornightly, and the hour 7 p,m Carried. Councilor, Feraud ro.se and said, Thi being, the first meeting of the Council, k consider, d it desirable to give a shadow of the works necessary to be prosecute during year., >; J’e>r his owajai he was of opin on that three things w, wanted, andjt was his intention, to dohii utmost towards having them carried oat First was an efficient water supply. Tk, present supply \vaa good, and great credit was due to former Councils for bavin secured to the town so great a blessing, k the exigencies of the case demanded better, and he thought it Cuuld be obtain, by sinking an artesian well on the terra, at the rear of the town. Secondly, was bridge across the Molyneux. It was ad mitted on all sides that the town had 1m considerably through the want of means, crossing the river. The punt was bin use, and never would he ; arid the onl thing to redivert the traffic again to tk town was by the erecting of a good Uriilgi He lookod upon it there would not be 1 slightest difficulty in raising sufficient fuiu and he felt assured it would repay itse in ten years at the furthest. A bridge: Clyde was the only link in the chain wants to connect the Northern and Souther Gold-fields. Not only tire district. Hut th entire country would be benefited by it, an ha doubted not that, when submitted( the public, the bonds or other securiti, offered for its construction would he eager!, sought after. The third, was the formatk of the street at the rear of the town on tk west side. Former Councils had been n quested to form it, but had not taken at action. He hoped this Council would mat this their primary work. He continued! say, in due time he would bring thes several matters before the Council, at trusted he would be supported. Councillor Patterson endorsed the vie* of Mr. Feraud, and said he would use what ever influence he possessed in having tk works carried out. Before the meetii closed lie desired to express his feeling towards the late Mayor, During the lot years Mr. Hazlett had occupied the positin of Mayor he had been indefatigable in hi efforts for the 1 enelit of the town. Hob spared neither time nor money, and ) e.vcry matter had acted conscientiously as faithfully. As a recognition for past vat able services he would propose, That a cor dial vote of thanks be recorded in tk minutes of the Council to James Hazlctt Esq., late Mayor, anil that the Town Cleii communicate the same to him. Becomh by Councillor Marshall, and carried unanimously. Tire meeting was then adjourned unti Wednesday, the 14th instant, at 7 o’ckd in the evening.
