MAYORAL ELECTIONS.
(to THE EDITOR OF THE DUN STAN TIMES.) Sir,—Your Cromwell contemporary says that the election of Mayor for Clyde was conducted in an informal manner, on account of not strictly following the words of the Ordinance ; and that, if any attempt were made to set aside the election, there could be little doubt that such an attempt would be successful. Admitting st.ch to be the case, I will now point out to you that the Cromwell electiou for Mayor could be set aside on the same grounds. The Ordinance states that the ballot papers should bear the names of the candidates only, and likewise that the elector should give the ballot paper to the officer in charge to de posit in the ballot-box. Were these particulars observed? No! For there were printed instructions on the ballot papers, and likewise the electors themselves deposited the papers in the ballot-box. I am, &c., ELECTOR. Clyde, Aug. 1, 1872.
