Chappie, Esq,, J.P , the present occupant of the office, together with the Towm Clerk attended at the Public Library to receive the The.; Mayor having ex. plained the object of the meeting, called on the Town- Clerk, whs then read the only nomination, that of Mr. William Boresfnrd> who was accordingly declared-elected. / ' ‘ CLYDE. The nomination of candidates for the office of Mavor took place at the Public Library, on Tuesday the ICth instant at noon. „ Janies Hazlett, Esq., Mayor, opened the meeting by stating its object, and requested the Town Clerk to read the nominations which were . Benjamin Naylor, proposed by Mr. jD. M'Pherson, seconded by Mr. D. M‘Oonnochie. John Uffill Cambridge, proposed by Mr. Martin Marshall, seconded by Mr. George Clark. Mr. Naylor said, it was only on the urgent solicitations of several gentlemen that he wasjinduced to come forward ; he had wished that some other gentleman, perhaps more competent than himself should contest the honor ; but, as he had been placed in nomination, he would wish to be elected, and he would leave it with the citizens to decide who was to be their choice. , He deemed it desirable, however, to say there was no personal feeling on his part against Mr. Cambridge. , He hoped there would be none imported into the i 1 action, and that the question would he settled entirely on' ita merits, He concluded by saying he had a considerable stake in Clyde, and, ifjeleoted, he woulk do his utmost to advance the interests of the.town generally. Mr. J. U. Cambridge said, that, having received a numerously signed requisition, he had consented to allow himself to he placed in nomination for the office of Mayor. He came forward without any feeling of opposition towards Mr. Naylor or to any one else, and he hoped, with Mr. Nayhr, that no personalities would be introduced into the contest. If elected, he would epdeavor to fulfil the duties to the benefit of'the tywn. If placed second on the poll, .he should accept his defeat with resignation, and would assist the more fortunate candidate in carrying out any scheme for the advancement and welfare cf Clyde. . The Mayor thou adjourned all further proceedings till Monday, the 22nd iust., when a poll will be taken in tbo_ customary manner. CROMWELLThe nomination of, candidates for the Mayoralty took place on. Wednesday, July the 17th, when the following gentlemen were proposed : Mr. James Taylor proposed by Mr. Duncan M , Kc”ar, seconded by Mr. Owen Pierce, Mr. Michael Feaer proposed by Mr. William Grant, seconded by Mr. J. M. Grant. ' : No shew of hands was taken. Both gentlemen mads long speeches, and several ratepayers spoke on the subject. The proceedings occupied over two hours. '1 he contest will he pretty keen, and both sides are confident, hut) the chances are slightly in favor of Mr. Fraor. QUEENSTOWN. The nomination of candidates for the forthcomingjelection of Mayor took place in the newjTowu Hall on Saturday last, the 13th instant. The followinggentlemcn were nominated : Mr. Michael'J. Mallaghan, proposed by Mr. J. W. Robertson, and seconded by Mr. T. G. let, Mr. William Warren, proposed by Mr. A. Eichardt, and seconded by Mr. W. Bab it.
