The energy and zeal in the work of the Office ever displayed by you during the four years you have occupied the honourable post, is a guarantee of your fitness for the Office, and indisputable evidence of the wisdom of our choice. Gentlemen, With sincerity allow me to thank you for your very flattering requisition, calling on me to allow myself to be placed in nomination for the office of Mayor at the ensuing Municipal Election. I deep.y regret that my business engagements, which will necessarily call me a great deal from the town, will prohibit me from devoting that attention to the office its importance requires. This precludes me from granting your request. But, at the same time I would assure you that my sympathy and g n od feeling for the Town will be exercised »s much in your favor as if placed in the honorable position of Mayor. Again, in the interest of the Town I deem it better to retire in favor of some other, who lam convinced will be found equally competent, and well qualified to occupy the position as myself.
