MINING NEWS.

The hard winter season appears to have broken up, and with a flow of water in the races, the miners are again busily at work ; on either bank of the Molyneux from Cromwell to Alexandra the scene of operations of 150 miners work is again resumed, and the fruits of their labor will tend to swell the next escort returns, the majority of the parties working on the banks of the Molyneux are engaged in sluicing, however, having as a rule but limited supplies of water, their gains are not large, yet those parties wdio fortunately have plenty of water are doing remarkably well. In Butcher’s, Conroy’s, and Blackman’s guild s, and Coal Creek, the miners have a plentiful supply of the liquid element, and a busy scene is witnessed in each place. At Frenchman’s Point, Alexandra, the Hit or Miss Company have again got under weigh and are netting excellent returns for their labor. At Half-mile Beach, Michael Kett and party, it is reported, have obtained good prospects ; this claim when sold by auction some three years back, realised 28001. sterling; but, up to the present time, through the. rising of the river and other unforseen accidents, no returns have been made, though every opportunity to get into the ground, has been taken advantage of. It is to be hoped the present attempt to get at the precious metal will not be a futile one, and that this season the .party will be recouped for their outlay. In Golden Gully and other places on the AA r est bank the prospects of the miners are favorable, but nothing is reported. J On the East bank, in the neighborhood of Alexandra, the only parties working are the Ovens and Manuherikia Companies,, and Sims and party at Mutton Town Point, the whole of whom have now a good supply o( water and are making fair wages. The Ovens Company have another claim at work on the Manuherikia, in which they have been engaged for the past nine mouths, their aim is the striking of a lead of gold that was worked some eight years ago by Mr. Bedford Butler, who obtained many thousands of pounds worth of gold ; a great amount of work has been done but without the desired effect. A rumor is also afloat to the effect that they have good indications of being in the neighborhood of gold, it is to be hoped such is the case. The Mauuherikia Company also have a second claim at work on the terraces below the Dunedin road, in which about wages are being made. Sims and party, at Mntton-town, have lately dissolved partnership, one half shareholder parting with his interest for 150/. The price alone is sufficient evidence that the property is good. In the neighborhood of Clyde the various sluicers on the AVest bank of the river also on the Bight, and the numerous parties on the terraces between the township and the AVai Ken Kcri Valley are all again in full work ; the ground lastly referred to was originally within the bounds of an agricultural survey block, but, upon a petition it has been withdrawn from tho operations of the Agricultural Lease System, and opened to be taken up by miners’ rights. The petition was got up by the Clyde Miners Association, and tho prayer was promptly • granted by the Government, this eventually must prove a great boon not only to tho district but .to the miners who are fortunate enough to obtain claims, as from prospects obtained the wholo of the ground is rieb, and will handsomely reward the workers. M'Nalty and party are bravely pushing ahead with their race they are bringing on to this ground, and in the course of about two montds expect to have their first instalment landed. Anderson and Co. are also making great strides with their channel which they expect to finish in about two mouths, when both these streams are landed on the ground about two dozen extra hands will find profitable employment. The accounts from Drybread, Tinker's, Devonshire, and Black’s are cheering, there being plenty of water, keeping all hands busy.
