CORONER’S INQUEST.

An inquest was held on Monday last, the 27th inst., at Alexandra, before Mr. E. H. Carew, Coroner, on the tody of Josopn Edmonson, who, it will be remembered, was drowned about seven weeks ago, while crossing the Hawea river on horseback. Tho evidence of Andrew Williamson, a miner engaged on board the dredge Galatea, was to the effect that he saw something floating down tke> river. Not knowing what it was he sent his dog in for it. The dog, after swimming some time, drove it on to the beach, when witness discovered it to be the deceased. The body was entirely naked, with the exception of the feet, on which were a p"ir of boots. John Cox, hotelkeeper, of Clyde, identified the body as that of Joseph Edmonson. Ko other evidence being forthcoming* the jury returned a verdict of “ Found, drowned.”
