An American scientific journal predicts the sun will burn out in 41,380. The question is : What are we to do then ? A correspondent writes that in Fiji, law and order are a perfect sham ; that people carry revolvers, and take out of limbo their friends by overpowering the native sentry and destroying the lock-up. The returns from the Thames Gold-fields for the last month are twelve thousand one hundred and forty-four ounces, and the quantity of stone crushed a little more than seven thousand six hundred tons. The musical jubilee for which Boston is now preparing, is to be held i i a building 832 feet lung, 422 feet wide, and 172 feet high, and the roof is to be supported by arches springing from the ground on each side and at the ends. The building erected for the musical festival of 183' d was only 500 feet long and 300 feet broad. The quartz reefs at luangahua, Westland, judging from present prospects, will eclipse anythingof the kind ever before discovered. Shares are selling at fabulous prices, with a great demand. From the Inanyahua Herald, a newspaper published on the reefs, we loam tint Charles L. Moricc, a gentleman well known in this district, purchased a fifty-second share for 130?. A Californian paper says Mr. Jacob Staley, some time ago, thought proper to steal a letter in Omaha from the United States mail. The letter contained a draft, on which the cash was got by a forged endorsement. A touching feature of the the case consisted in the fact that Staley’s wife went upon the stand and swore that she was the forger. Her hops was to save her husband, and apparently perjured Lorself to accomplish that end. The effort was vain, and the Judge in pa sing seiitencejsaid he was entirely safi ff d that the woman was not guilty of tho crime with which shecharged herself. Tho sentence a heavy one, being that Staley should he confine-' in the in the House of Correction for ten years. Holloway’s Tills and Ointment.— Nature’s Monitor. —Pain is the indicator of somo/disordoror disease, andshouldheverhe neglected, for the pain of to day may prove the agony of to-morrow. Holloway’s medicaments stand preeminently forward, and arejeverywherc commended, for quickly removing all maladies, when tho least uneasiness has discovered their seat and kind. These remedies so purify the blood, and regulate its circulation, that every organ acts perfectly, and avery secretion is natural, which is health, and may be secured by every invalid at a trilling outlay. The purpose of Holloway’s remedies is to mitigate suffering, abolish pain, and extinguish disease and they nobly effect this object. One - ■ ial will convince the most sceptical.
