BLACK'S RACES
Stewards, Messrs. Samson, Handyside, Jackson, Sinnamon, and Greenbank. Judge, J. G. G. Glassford, Esq. Clerk of Course, Mr, R. M'Morran. This event came of on Friday and Saturday, the 15th and 16th instants, and in every respect was a great success. The weather being everything the most fastidi. us could desire, in a great mearure tended to produce this, hut the racing together with the other arrangements (or tire comfort of visitors, provided by the committee, were perfect.and as a matter of course resulted in producing so desirable an effect. The various events w'ere contended for most gamely, and the winners richly merited the prizes won, and thehuzzars of .the happy crowd which were unrestrainedly accorded them. The advertised programme being run through, the sport was brought to a close by competing for - the Hospital Race (a recognised institution in the Dunatan District) for which the sum of 9f. was subscribed on the course, and was most cleverly'won by Mellor’s Merrylass, ridden by young Richardson. The refreshment booth, underthe supervision of Messrs. Pitches, attracted pretty general attention and was liberally supported by the thirsty turfl es. Musician declining to have another round with his formidable opponent and not coming up to the scratch, Fireeater had the remainder of the running aU his own way.
