We arc extremely pleased to correct an erroneous ftport which appeared in a late issue, headed “Mining Memoranda,” referring to the Kawarau Dredge. Our informant was evidently misinformed. As, upon reliable authority, we are informed, miring the past week the party have struck something Very payable, but whether it is merely a patch, our informant could not say. ' The weather for the past ton days has been unprecedently hot for the season of the year, and a scarcity of water is again being experienced by the miners. Oar report of the Black’s races through an accident, we are unable to publish in in this issiife , and must tax the patience of our readers by asking them to wait till our next, when it will appear in extenso. The half yearly Meetingof the Band nfHope for the Election of officers will-bo held in the School-house on Tuesday next the 27th instant. Members are earnestly invited to attend. ,We would draw attention of owners of stock to the advertisement of Mr, ' M'Ardcll, the Inspector of the Clyde and Alexandra Commonages, and urge on them the necessity of paying the amount of the assessment due.
The Port Chalmers Cravings Dock was formally opened and. Christened on Friday last. From the report of the Dunedin Horticutijral Exhibition we notice that Mr. J. D. Feraud, of Monte Christo Farm, Clyde, was awarded the second prize for apples. The Evening Slur says:—“ The first rails for the Clutha Railway were landed on the Kail way Station Reserve this morning. They are construucted on the vignole principle, and weigh Mbs. to the yard. TJie second shipment, by the Margaret Galbraith, is to hand,’ and will be landed in a few days: The Forbury Park Races, come off today and tomorrow and it is anticipated a large concourse of people will be- present. The rights of gates, Booths, Stand, and cards, were sold by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., and realized in all, the handsome sum of 574 1, 10. The Rev. E. G. Edwards' has received
intelligenc from the Lord Bishop of Dunedin that he has made arrangements for four clergymen to come out to Otago and take charge of cures in the diocese They will either come out with him or precede him on his return.
