Ormonli writes to the Superintendents, suggesting that the contractor be allowed to employ Chinese laborers on public works, owing to the insufficient supply here and the difficulty of obtaining immigrants from England. .Serious hindrance would thereby be prevented. Curtis's (Nelson) is the only reply p u l,. | lishod. He thinks the Chinese able to come themselves, but is adverse to their employment, and believes there would be no difficulty in obtaining Europeans.
