FOURTEEN MILE BEACH.
(FROM OUR CORRESFONEENT.) A prospecting claim of twelve hundred feet was granted to Messrs. Heron and Nott of the Fourteen-mile Beach, on Tuesday the 27th ultimo, by Mr. Warden Borton, Teviot. The reef at » depth of eight feet .in the he 1 reef shows a width of twelve inches solid stone, with every indication of widening. A sample of the stone weighing 4!bs. 2oz. was forwarded to the Bank of New Zealand, Teviot, and through the kindness of the Agent, Hr. M-Lolland, was tested for the prospectors, and the results as returned by him, are six grains, or at the rate of soz. 17dwt. 2gr. per ton. The prospectors are busy at work sinking ■a fresh shaft a little ahead on the reef anil expect to bottom at fifty feet in about three weeks, when a few tons will be taken out and tried. The above prospect is very •cheering, and from present indications there is everything in favor of the reef proving a success, as the proprietors have a splendid •command of water, and a level dray road light to their workings.
