CLYDE BAND OF HOPE ENTERTAINMENT.

V ~o On Friday evening [lost, the fust of* scries of entertainments under the management of the Clyde Band of Hope, eras given in the Town Hall, Clyde. The proscenium and stage J were decowted in Mr. T. Webb's very best style, ami-had a most pleasing cfTeet. The eutertainmet comprised glees, choruses, ducts, songs and readings, and •throughout was a most successful affair, each vicing with the others in their efforts to give satisfaction, and by the lively satisfaction'evincod by the audience at the termination of each piece their efforts were attended with success. The members of trie Society were'ably[supported by Mr. West, of Dunedin, who happened to be on Clyde and kindly voluntered his services to take the piano, by a lady .friend, an old acquantance, Miss Brooks, who rendered very sweetly some favorite songs, and by the renowned Weston, of He celebrity, who dug down a few and with but little persuasion, scratched up, by the aid of his banjo, some side splitting'drollerios. At the appointed time, the Rev. J. Jones took.tho chair, and in a short appropriate speech, opened tlio entertainment. Mr. West on the piano, and a gentleman amateur on the violin, here performed in a brilliant manner, the overture to Then followed the choruses, songs, and readings to the end of the pro gramme,'when the National Anthem was sung by the whole house with great gusto. The seat* lieing quickly packed away, the floor was taken possession of by the terpsichoreans, who footed it away right merrily for a few hours.
