Allanby, Esq. SECRETARY : Mr. 11. W. Smythils. BANKERS: Bank of New South Wales. SURVEYOR : H. W, Smvthies, Esq. rnHE Company is formed for tho 1 purpose of supplying (o the largo Mining District of Carri'ck Range and Bannockburn a quantity of water snfficout to, in some measure, enable tho well known auriferous resources of that district to be developed By tho proposed scheme, the necessity for further Steam machinery for Quartz crushing purposes will bo dispensed with; and by the substitution of Water-power, a saving of 50 per cent will he effected, besides stimulating the erection of additional Quartzcrushing Mills. By a judicious distribution of the supply, the Whiter cun be made available many times, as the altitude at which it will be delivered on the Range (being within two hundred feet of the summit) will enable the Company to dispose ot its use at various levels until its final debouch into the Kawaiau River. The proposed Race will command at least thirty square miles of wellproved, highly auriferous ground on tho Garrick Range, which nothing but the absence of water has hitherto prevented from being profitably worked. Mr Haugbton, in lus Report on the Water Schemes to he initiated by tho Government aid, referred in highly eulogistic terms to the desirability of this scheme, and to its undoubted success. There arc at present three Steam Quartz-crushing Machines on the Range, and these are stopped frequently through want of water, and are subject to a heavy outlay for procuring coal, These difficulties will bo effectually overcome by the successful carrying out of the proposed scheme. The undoubted payable character j of tho undertaking has induced laanv private parties to propose a similar scheme, but the cost has invariably prevented its furtherance ; and it has been acknowledged that, to ensure a successful issue, tlieundertakingshould he placed in the position of a substantial Company.
The line of Race lias been marked out, and the necessary levels have been taken, by our Surveyor (Mr. Smytiiies), with the view of ascertaining (liepracticability of the scheme; aVul it has been estimated by him that about £7obo will bo required to construct the main Pace, of which a portion will have to be flamed. The Company, recognising the necessity of having a capital to command any contingencies, and with a view of compensating the Promoters, nineteen in number, (some of whom have relinquished large private right sin favor of the Company,) have made tlio Capital •£111,000; and the Promoters have agreed to accept £IOOO in paid up shares, as compensation for their rights and expenses in the matter, —thus leaving £10,950 available for tlio prosecution ot the works. The Company propose, bringing in Sixteen Heads of Water, and the disposal of that quantity at current rates will secure to the Company large and permanent dividends. It is also intended to obtain such Subsidy from the Government as may bo granted should the terms be suitable. So soon as a sufficient number of Shares have hern applied for to insure tlio existence of the Company a general meeting of Shareholders will be called for the election ot permanent officers and to take steps to registci the Comaany. It has been settled by the promoters that Is. per share be paid on application; that 2/6 lie paid onallotment and that no calls be made at less intervals than ono calender month, and shall not exceed 2/6 each call rouit of Arri.icA.Tiox tor shares.
