(from a correspondent. ) Since my last there is little of any moment to communicate. The weather is still fine and very warm, although we have had three or four slight showers at night. Yesterday afternoon we hail a tremendous storm of wind, with a heavy overcast sky and three or four claps of thunder ; the wind lasted about three hours and then calmed, leaving a fine clear evening, it did no damage, but frightened folks a little about their roofs. Our farmers are all at work now, cutting and gatherin their crops. Business of all other description is very quiet. We were enlivened a little last I'riday by seeincr a wedding party driving through our city, one of our business men having taken it into his head to increase his family as well as his establ'shment. We wish the new married couple every joy and hanpiness; it is a good beginning for the new year. A meeting of tho shareholders of the Try Again Company was called for last evening but fell through for want of attendance, another meeting is called for on the 12th inst, when it is hoped the shareholders will attend, or vote by proxy, (which they can so easily do by the scratch of a pen), it will be to their own advantage either to carry on the work, or have their money returned to them, we hear there is a good balance to their credit to be returned if so settled.
