The Mount Ida. Chronicle says -The members of the Carcw Testimonial Committee and a few other gentlmon met Mr. Carew at George’s Victoria Hotc' on the evening of Friday last. The gold watch and chain and illuminated testimonial were presented by Mr. 11. C. Hertslet in a short and appropriate address, ami feelingly responded to by Mr. Carew. After the presentation a pleaSant evening was passed by all pcsent. Shocks of earthquake were felt in the Ovens and Murray distiicts on the 4th of January. Two deaths from snake-bite have occurred at Daylesford. Professor Halford’s antidote was |SMr. Morrison, manager of Hustler's Reef, Bendigo (Victoria), fell down a shaft, three hundred fed deep, and was killed.
