BLACK’S.
(FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) Hie weather here, as in your district, is all that could he desired or rather, more than is desired. The long drought anil high winds that we have had for the last two mouths have completely parched up the lan 1 ; hut the recent heavy fall of rain has irrigated the crops amaeingly. The old adage that “ it never rains but it pours," is about to be verified here, in the care for our Spiritual needs. Some few months ago we had no regular visiting minister attending this place. Now we have two, and if we arc not all that we should be, it will not be for the want i.f pastors. A Mr. Green holds Service every alternate Sunday in the Schoo'-house, and I believe the Rev. Mr. Jones, Church of England Clergyman, has made arrangements to do likewise. Public meetings have been held of the believers in Mr. Green’s creed, and I be ieve a fair amount of money has been raised by subscription towards keeping him in the district. A public meeting was also held, on Saturday evening last, of the members of the Church of Euglan I : Mr. Carew in the chair. A committee was formed, consisting of Messrs. Carew, Burke, Worth, Stronach, Mellor, Glass, and Olieereman. Mr. W. U. Burke was elected Honorary Secretary and Mr. E. H. Carew Chairman of Committee Mr. Burke was chosen as delegate, to confer with the Committees at Clyde and Alexandra. Subscription lists have already been opened, and with good show of success. The inhabitants of Tinker’s, Devonshire, and Dryhrea I are still far from being fatislic I with the Warden’s Court arrangements an I I no ieve a petition has been forwarded to the Executive, praying for a Court to be held at Tinker’s Gully either fortnightly or monthly. If the Government intend to boll a Court on that fide of the range, I think myself it saoull he at Tinker’s, as it D centrally situate between Devonshire and Dryhrea 1. The Illinois of Devonshire would as soon come to Black’s as have to go to Dry bread to attend the Court, the distance being nearly epial, and I believe there are m ire mi iers at Tinker’s than at Drybr.a I. A petition lias also been forwar td to the postal authorities, to have a branch postofliee at Tinker's, as great inconvenience is felt by the Ti iker’a an 1 Devonshire people un ler existing a.-ran cm aits. Owing to a ll u>,l in the Mauiiherikiasome mouths ago, the furry boat belonging to Mr. Spain was swept away. This is a sad loss to pet sous \vi diiug to cross the liver, as idthoiudi there are times when the river is passable on foot, it is vsrv often that it is not safe to attempt. It is a'so a great loss | to our school, as some line or leu of the 1 children that used to ath nl, live on the | other side of the river, and there is no means 1 of getting them across. The Government proinis d us a boat I bulge soar ! two or three years ago, if they cannot afford it now, the best thing they can do, will he to furnish . us with a boat an 1 give some subsidy towards paying soma one to look a'ter it. Our leafing men should see to it, and get I the matter properly represented to the authorities. At Black’s No. 3, things are not looking so well as « hen 1 ist reported. There is some talk of rhe Ida Valley Company being wound up. The Try Again Company have called fresh tenders for the sinking of llnir shaft, rlie former contractor, Air. P. Nieho'son, j having riven up Ids contract, as he failed to iet the shaft down in the speeille I time, owing to mi-management; or to meeting with difficulties that lie did not anticipate.
