ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE

CLYDE CHURCH.

[We do not identify ourselves with the opinions that may be expressed by our correspondents. ] 4

(TO the editor of THE DUNSTaS times.) tsir, —It must bo exceedingly gratifying to all people residing at Clyde to know that at last the * sound of the church going bell’ will be heard every sabbath ; and it must be gratifying to the reverend stranger who officiated last Sunday to find that ho will hereafter preach to a goodly assemblage of worshippers. Difficulties will be easily smoothed away by an earnest pastor and willing congregation. There are some little matters that need attending to at once by the Church managers The seats of the building are rioketty and want renovating, the flaring and flickering , lamps might be trimmed to throw a somef what more steady light over the scene ; the ' inevitable baby should by moral or physical suasion bo cajoled into quietude, and the choir might blend their voices in more har-

monious cadences, so that the beautiful service of the Church of England may be rendered with all due deliberation and holy reverence. Many members, male and female, of the original Church choir, who, under the leadership of Mr. Spensely ; became a well trained band of singers, are still residing at Clyde, and might with little trouble gather together one or two nights in every week for practice. May a modest admirer of church music be permitted to crave this small favor. The public will owe them a lasting debt of gratitude and the little trouble be repaid them by the contemplation that they will be “ with good will doing service.” Yours, &0., Z. October 23rd., 1871.
