ALEXANDRA.
Communicated. By the extra activity disceraable on the West bank of the Molyneux from this place upwards, it is evident that neither all the energy of its workers is expended, or that the whole of the gold is extracted. A large area of new ground has been taken up and preparations are being'made in many instances to work the claims on a systematic and extensive scale. The water supply which is all needful to success is at the present plentiful, and shews every indication of being so during the season. Messrs. Knowles, Slmmouds, and Co. at the Earnscleugh Grand Junction Claim, have increased their party to seven, by joining with the old Hit or Miss Company, who bring into the party their extensive plant; the pump and wheel are already iu place, and the tramway and trucks will be in full working order during the next week. Great things are looked for, and if it turns out according to last years prospects it will pay handsomely. Joseph Knowles has opened a claim in some new ground, known as'Mons Isle, and obtained first-class prospects therefrom. This claim is spoken of by old miners as being very rich: in fact, a “pile.” Noble and Company have for, the nonce given up prospecting in'the deep ground, and are busy sluicing the top seams, from which they are being well paid. Roberts and Company are also sluicing away the top seams, with good success. The numerous other parties meutione 1 in former reports are all in full swing, and adding their fair quota to the Escort returns. At Iversen’s Reef, Conroy’s Cully, the work, which had been suspended for a short time for want of timber, was resumed on Monday, and the machine is again in full swim:. A good indication of reef has been opened up in the cut a few feet below the upper shaft, about three feet wide, verv solid, and carrying good gold. A reef has also been struck at the end of the present tunnel, but showing no indications of gold as yet. The Company have about one hundred tons crushed, ami will crush until Saturday, when they' will clear up. A new .inial .anr barrel and shaking table have been added to the machinery. Butcher's Gully Reef is in statuquo, awaiting the pumping machinery, which is daily expected on the ground. « M‘Guinness’s alluvial claim, in Butcher’s Gully, as also T. Wilkin and party’s aud the others, are all in full work, with good returns. Those parties are ground sluicing the bed of the gully, aud merit whatever success is meted to them their workings being of an extensive and skilful character. Coal Creek, the boundary of the Dunstan district, finds profitable employment for a few parties, but when theGorgeCreek water race is completed, to command the many terraces and gullies known to bo highly auriferous, a largo population will doubthss bo settled iu the neighborhood. This race is being construe: cd to carry twenty heads of water, and will be a great boon to the district. On the cart bank of tire Molyneux no great change is visible. The Ovens Cmnpanp, on the Manuh. rikia, are, still engaged building their wing dam. -This Company have been to heavy expenses <i late in connexion with this claim, but anticipate to be repaid. ’The Mamihcrikia Company who for some time past have been working two separa e claims, have dissolved partnership, each portion of the conrnany sticking to the claims they arc working in. The original party comprised twelve s! a eln filers : under the dissolution there will be two parties of six. Iu commercial circles dullness reigns predominant., ami complaints meet you on every side of the scarcity of the needful; but, as the same wail is hoard from all quarters of the province, I suppose this piece of iuforina ion will ro; si rprise you. Until next issue—Good bye.
