The second reading of tho Goldfields' Bill adjourned till Friday. Mr. Reid moved the second reading of the Otago Land Bill. Mr. M'Lean moved an amendment, that it be read that day six months. Mr. M'Gilvary supported the Bill. Messrs. Vogel and Haughton were for an adjournment of the debate, which was agreed to. It is probable that the BUI will be rejected. On the motion of supply, Mr. Stafford moved an adjournment until Thursday, urging that the House could not discuss the policy, until tho Bills were brought down. Goernment insisted upon an adjournment till Tuesday, then to go on with the Estimates, as the Bills would not be ready for sometime. Mr. Stewart tabled a motion for the reduction of the inter-colonial postage on newspapers, a half-penny. Mr. Macandrew brought in a Bill to impower the Oamaru Dock'.Trust to borrow 50,0001. on colonial security. Mr. Haughton tabled the folowing resolutions : —That it is not expedient for the Government itself to undertake works for water supply. That the amount for disposal under the Act, should be expended in advance* of a third to capital invested, and that a portion of tho money should be applicable for other purposes than water supply. That tho amount provided by the Act for the gold-fields is not sufficient. Smythies was heard at the bar of the House yesterday. He spoke for upwards of two hours. Mr. Busby, of Auckland, is dead. It is reported that Major Atkinson, of Taranaki, has been appointed to the command of the Armed Constabulary.

DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL. An adjourned meeting of the committee was held in the committee room, Town Hall, on Friday the 15th instant. Present, Vincent Pyke, Esq., (President) and Messrs Fache, Cambridge Marshall, Welsford, Holt, Parks, Naylor, Hazlett, Grindley, Patterson, and R. Barlow, (Secratary). The President called upon the Secretary to read the Report, No. 1 of the Visiting Committee. The report as read, referred to the management of the institution, to complaints made against the Surgeon, to the inattention of the surgeon to requests to supply certain returns, and recommended a board of inquiry be appointed to investigate into the matter. After some amount of discussion the rereport was adopted, and Messrs. Vincent * Pyke, (President), W. Fraser, (Vice President), Hazlett, and Cambridge were appointed the Board. . The Visiting Committee’s report, No. ‘2M recommending accounts for salaries, provi? siona, &c., for the mouth of amounting to 127f. 12s. Id. was read and adopted. The Treasurer’s report, shewing the following totals was read and received. The patients admitted were from Queenstown, one ; Ida Valley, one; Spear Grass, one ; Serpentine, one. Resolved.—That the report be referred back to the Resident Surgeon for explanation and completion. Eleven applications by married couples for the situation as wardsman and matron were opened and read, Resolved.—That the consideration of the application be held over till after receiving report of Board of Enquiry, and that the Visiting Committee be empowered to make such arrangements relative to the wardsman and matron as they may deem necessary, A new form of admission by which pay. ment of maintenance is guaranteed as prepared by Mr. \V. \V. Wilson, Solicitor, was read, and ordered to be printed on stamped paper, The notice of motion standing in the names of Mr. Fache and Mr. Christophers were allowed to stand over by consent. Resolved, That inebriates or persons suffering from the effects of intoxication shall not be admitted as patients of tbe Hospital unless four weeks’ maintenance money be paid in advance. It was resolved, That the meeting stand adjourned till Friday" tbe 22nd inst.
