Whv all this t >il al l trouble?" t LL those who are suffering from des--1 pondeno-, or lancholia, 10-s of spirits, and pluck, who feel that they are wasting and piling, and who are gradually g tting wo iker and weaker, 'rom causes they have no courage or desire to acquaint th ir family tt ndant with. In all sue'i cams Mr. L. L. SMITH feels it incumbent on himself to inform such unfortunate pa dents, that he has devoted his lifetime to the study of these complaints, having been a pupd a d assistant of the la‘e Dr. Culve well, of London, who made these diseases hisspeci ] prae me. I In nil those diseases relating and peri taini ig to Married/Lj/e, and which make . nia-riage a cursyrafMer thdi a hies in-r, Mr |L. SMITH before disease of a more se ions character sets in ; the above arises frequently from rhe enervatin'influence of hot clima es, but frequently from other causes of a more serious namre. Palnradons of the heart, a t ndency also to be easily startle and alarm d, is another phase of disease which requires p irtioular at.t ntion, as arising from a nosi i.upor.ant cause ; those who sutler froai the above have not—- “ Mix’d with pleasure, An 1 wisdom with mirth.” But have on the contrary, boon guilty of a secret vice, which has, as it were, eaten into their very vitals. Many “oil young men ” consult me, who, though young in years, have, through the vice above alludea to, and from their having been quacked by the unqualified an unskilful medical man, at las given up all hope an 1 succumbed, ami are age > in their very youth, untitto to fulfil tne duties which they are set on this earth to berform. “Be wise to-day, ’tis madness to defer Procrastination is the thi f of time.” Mr. L. L. SMITH wishes to impress on those who are laboring nn er diseases which cannot be treated by the general medica ( attendant, from i sufficient knowledge and practice, that as an expert in these diseases, j he has the right to warn the public at largo | against the number of blata -t charlatans j and quacks who not only extort the m .ney j out of the pockets of the patients, but are continually ruining the health of the unfortunate sufferers. Many him I reds yearly present themselves to him from all the different colonics, who are thorougiily bankrupt in health and pocket, and then lament, when too late, the horrible deception which has been practised on them. Not only do men deceive these unfortunate victims by pretending to be legally qualified men, but they a dvertise for sale, an.lswindle the public, by soding bottlesof muck, unde • the name of " Dr. Ricord’s Essence of Life,” “Balm of Syriacum,” and a mass of quackeries, whose sole province is to extract money out of the pockets of their deluded victims. Will the public never understand that the only guarantee they can have that they will b: honestly and skilfully treated, is the fact that the person to whom they apply for advice is a legally qualified radical man who has devote 1 his time to the bran hj of practice for which the patient is seeking aid? Seco dly, that his long residence in the place, and his position, is at lead a guarantee of the estimation in which, he is held by his fellow-citizens
