The Governor’s speech referred to the events of the year, and concluded by asking the House to give their serious consideration, among other measures, to the following Bills :—For the Law of Insolvency, for amending the Law Relating to Gol -fields, for Conb rring Powers upon Committees on disputed Elections, for the Regulation of the Coasting Trade, for thb ncouragement of Fisheries, for Conferring Powers upon Highway Boards, for Providing for the appointment of Public Trustees; for Providing Land for Settlement and Immigran s, for the Letl er Regulation of Charitable Trusts. A Committee has been appointed to advise on the represent a ion of Auckland, have decided that Williamson was disqualified at the (ime of bis elec! ion. The petition against Sir D. Munro is likely to be successful. Gilfirs, and Creighton, are coalescing withthe Rt d party. The Port Cna'mers Railway contractors having refused to pay a claim for compensation, the claimant now seeks to upset Ordinances under which promoter s act. The Graving Dock dispule has culminated. in the contractors serving the Dock Trust with a writ for 2,200/. Steps for contesting the Mayoral election have been withdrawn. The Address and reply were adopted after a short debate. Shepherd made two a s npts to speak, but there was a count out each time. Yesten ay he carried amendment for a Waste Lands committee,-therepresentatives to report independently of Council, Wellington, 5 p.m. Petition presented by Mr. Shepherd, signed by two hundred miners and residents of Alexandra district, praying that the existing law, affectiug water-rights be maintained. Mr. • hepherd nioved an amendment on, the motion for the appointment of a Select Committee to consider the Land Bills, “That such Committee should report separately, and not jointly, as has hitherto been the practice in tKe Legislative Council.” The amendment was cqrr}ed.
