CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening August I. Present. —J. Hazlett. -Esq.,: J.P., and Mayor, and Councillors' Clark, Patterson, Brough, Hastie and Weisford. A letter from Mr. W. W. Wilson, Solicitor in reference to the Water Works Bill was read. Unsolved, That the consideration of the letter stand over till next meeting. Resolved, jThat the nomination of Councillor for East Ward take place on Saturday the sth inst, and the poll on Tuesday, the Bth inst. Councillor Hastie was appointed returning officer. The meeting then lapse 1. The usual monthly meeting was held on the 2nd of August, at Bp.m. Present.—J. Hazlett Esq., J.P., and Mayor, and Councillors Brough, Hastie, Weisford, Patterson and Clark. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward and outward correspondence was read, received, and adopted. Resolved, That the Building Society have the use of the Council Chambers to carry on their . business in, for the sum of seven pounds.sterling per annum. Accounts of Mr. Arthur for surveying the town race, &c., amounting to 131. 125., were passed for,'payment. Resolved, That a letter be written by the Town Clerk to Mr. Wilson, requesting him to communicate with hi» agents in Wellington, and ascertain the approximate cost o

passing the Water Works Bill, and in the mean time tliat Mr. Wilson take the necessary steps to forward the passing of the said Bill. Resolved, That the Town Clerk he instructed to write to the Corporation of Alexandra, suggesting that steps shall he taken to obtain signatures to a petition, to he prepared and forwarded to the proper quarter, with the view of having counties declared and that the expense of obtaining signatures to such petition shall he home equally by this Council and the Corporation of Alexandra. The meeting then adjourned till Wednesday the 9th inst,
