(Prom ouk corrrkpovde't.) A great farce was exacted here on Saturday evening last. A public meeting was called to receive the resignation of the existing Progress Committee and to elect a fresh one —at least so sai the convent ig notices. The time arrived, and at the Suamrock hotel an assembly of fifteen ■gathered, and aftersome little delay a chair hlan was proposed. The gentleman elecfhd seemed in no hurry to take his sent and open the meeting. Email. he was persua led to officiate, and proceedings comm need. Someone got tip to offer an explanation about something hut was peremptorily 'o.d to “shut up.” The person, however, persisted in readi g a letter, which, from wiiat I could gather, contained tho resignation of one menu er of the Progress Committee. He was interrupted by the gentleman who had previously order, d him to shut up, who C mlidentially assure i the meeting that he know all about it, and it was all n hj , ami so ling as he thought it was li hi the meciing need not trouble.
