ALEXANDRA.
(from our correspondent). The great event of the week was the advent of Mr. 0 E. Haughton, M.H. R., Water Commissioner, ffre., who held a meeting in the Public Library. As a report of the proceed ings will appear in your other coli\pins I will not occupy space here, further than to remark that I hope the charming unanimity between the two townships on the matter of water supply will extend to other things. Messrs. M‘Kersey, Forrest and Co., who are about to construct a race to carry eighteen heads of water from’ l the Gorge Creek to Butchers have had to alter a portion of their survey, so it will be a little rime before they will be ready to commence operations. At the Half Mile Beach, Kett, Jones and party have all preliminary arrang -m-mts made and will start paddocking immediately. has expended a large amount of time and money on their claim, and deserve handsome dividends. The Hit or Miss company arehusily at work on the old Frenchman’s claim and Anderson’s party ace about to commence pacldoeking. From Conroy’s I hear that Iverson has struck quartz in the new tunnel he is putting in, but whether it is the main reef or only a lead&r I cannot say.
