A meeting of the contributors to the Dun-stan district Hospital, will be held at the Public Library, Clyde, at 3 p.m. on Friday ths 24th inst. for the purpose of electing four members of Committee. The report of the Hundreds’ Commissioners has been published. It states that as land for settlement is urgently required the Commissioners have given the widest latitude, consistent with the requirements of the Act, iu forming their opinion as to the desirability or non desirability of proclaiming the proposed Hundreds; also, that in the opinion of the Commissioners, % s Hundreds Act was not intended to interfere with the working of the Goldfields’ Act. Tho Commissioners advise that none of the proposed Hundreds on the gol fields should be proclaimed, but that land should be thrown operk for settlement uuder the Agricultural Losses system. A and five hundred ipijians was fought iu the streets of Levuka recently. A triple murder has been committed at Orange. New South Wales-the victims being a Mr. and Mrs. Kane and a Mrs. Martin: The murderer -s supposed to be the husband of the latter. At two o’clock bn the 'morning of the 24th ulfc., tho ship City of Auckland, while lying at Auckland wharf took fire, and, with her cargo consisting of gum, flax, guano, oil, tallow, and wool, valued at £20,000, was destroyed. The annual races of the Switzer’s Jockey Club arc advertised to take place on the 2nd and 3rd of March. The programme, which wid be found in another column, has evidently been carefully rawn up, and is verycreditable to Switzer’s. We hops that the meeting will be athor mgh success.
