Dunedin, Thursday evening. It is rumored that the election for the Superintendeucy' will not take place till the 14th proximo. Murphy proprietor of the Shamrock Hotel died suddenly to day, Reid commences his electioneering tomorrow. Christchurch, Thursday evening. Cedeno was committed for trial for murdering a woman in Christchurch. Rolleston was re-elocte I for the Avon without opposition. Williams and Richardson were nominated for Christchurch West. The funeral of the girl murdered in Hokitika was largely attended. In the Hokitika Circuit Court to day, Margaret Quigley indicted for the murder of Pattenamle at Ruble’s, was found guilty of manslaughter, and sentenced to four years penal servitude. David Souter indicted for the murder of Mary Ann Hamill was found guilty of the capital charge, with arocommen iation to mercy. On being sentenced to death, prisoner fainted on the floor of the Court. The Judge held out hopes of h,is life being spared. Wellington, Thursday. Hunter and Pearce have accepted large requisitions to stand for the City.
