ALEXANDRA.
(From our own correspondent.) Political matters, though engrossing the attention of the residents i the district, create very little excitement. The feeling on the matter of the Superintendency remains the same as I reported last week. With regard to Provincial Council matters nothing further has been heard of the candid i* ture of Mr. J. C. Brown. A requisition to tin Mervyn has been in course of signature during last week, but was not received very enthusiastically. For the General Assembly no one here knows who is going to stand, consequently they have had no opportunity of expressing their views. The Alabama and Galatea dre ’ges resumed work-last week and report saith, both are doing pretty well. A fish was caught'in the Manuherikia last week which being proeouoced by our local savans a salmon trout, was sent to Mr. Pyke, Clyde who being unable from the state the fish was in when it reached him, to say what it was, intends forwarding it to the Acclimatisation Society for the purpose of ascertaining whether the “ illustrious stranger ” is a salmon or a sell.
