CLYDE ATHLETIC SPORTS.

Th o above sports took place on the Recreation Cround on Monday,ami Tuesday last, and went otY very suecessfully. The wealher was gloriously line, there was scarcely a cloud in the sky, and the heat of tae sun’s rays was agreeably tempered by light breezes which sprung up at intervals. Towards the evening of both Jays, however, the presence of dust began to be disagreealvy manifest ; but, although it enveloped and pervaded every ling and everybody, tha jollity of those afaemblod did not seem to be interfere 1 with. The attendance of spectators was not so large as on previous occasions, but the attractions elsewhere la the shape of similar sports fully accounts for that. A large number uf ladies graced the scene with their presence on both days. The various events brought a fair number oj competitors to the scratch, and were all well contested. The tilting tournament created a good deal of interest. Twenty -three gay cavaliers entered the lists but their efforts were not so successful as is usually the case, the majority of them not taking a single ring. On Wednesday a pige n match for ten guineas (presented by Mr. Eames, of the Dnnstan Hotel) took place. fifteen competitors entered, the winner being M r Stuart, who shot all birds. A number of races and other sports were impraudvusod, served to provide an afternoon’s arausomeht, Mr. Hawthorne catered for the refreshment of tke spectators, andj if wo may judge from the number who patronised him his efforts were highly satisfactory both to the public and himself.
