(from our own correspondent.) Dunedin, Thursday, 5, pm. In the Supremo Court to day, the following sentences were passed— Hutchings for attempt to commit bestiality in Dunedin, six months imprisonment. McDonald, forging and uttering in Dunedin, and M’Ewen. for larceny as a bailee at Switzers, each two years. Roberts and Dods charged with obtaining money under false pretences, were acquitted. The Provincial Council was prorogued yesterday. In his closing speech, the Superintendent lecommeiuled economic alterations in the Executive. He stated that he believed that throughout the country, there was an earnest desire for the immediate commencement of Public Works, which in addition to developing the resources of the I rovince would afford abundant employment for ye irs to come. To so far mitigate the evils of delay, he proposed to refer the question to the people themselves, which view implied immediate dissolution.
The. Governor, accompanied by Commodore Stirling, will visit Dunedin and the goldfields in January.
The Provincial Elections will take place in January. Hewson and Anderson on a charge of sheepstealing at the Bannockburn were found not guilty. <>n the same charge, Neill and Fellows were found guilty. Hew.son will be tried on another charge to morrow.
