The year shows signs of burning itself out when w-e see the first eiuber-Scpt-ember,
Mrs- Rarasbotham is much offended at an observation in one of the papers about the Serpentine mud. She read that though this had been remove I to dry, more than a year had 'passe, and'“the mess was not yet. Friable.” She cannot express her disgustat the idea of frying such a thing.
Mrs. Mala] rop had no idea that the Monkeys in In ia were such clever and important creatures, until she heard Mr. Malaprop read in the paper that “The natives of Bengal intend to send an influential Ba 000 to Englaa. to advocate the cause of the natives.”
When Cobshott was presented with a handsome silver Tankard, in recognition of bis valuable services as Honorary Secretary to the Beech sham Bowling Club, his friends congratulated him on having something which could be “hj nded . own.” Cobshott, who is not always in the msiut pecuniary circumstances, made this brief but ini] rcssive reply—“ Melted down, more likely.”
