CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Clyde Town Council was held on Wednesday evening last, in the Town Hall. Present : The Mayor, and Councillors Hastie, Naylor, Clark, Welsford, Hueston, and Patterson.
The minutes of the last regular meeting, and also of a special meeting, were read and confirmed.
The Town Clerk road copies of letters sent since last meeting ; also the following letters received :
From the Provincial Treasurer, enc os ng draft for £l3l Os. G 1., amount of subsidy due to the Council.
From Mr. Percy, respecting the appointment of an Inspector of Nuisances. From Mr. Brough, asking whether the Council intended to take steps to remove Mr. Fowler’s house from the street, and, in the event of their deciding to take action, offering to conduct the case on their behalf. Ordered to stand over till the result of tho present proceedings in the matter was known.
From Mr. Logan, in reference to the ap poiutment of a Banger for the commonage, stating that, as the Provincial Government received only £47 commonage fee , hj y were not inclined to pay £IOO a year to a Banger. On the motion of Or.Patterson, the Mayor was authorised to communicate with the Provincial Government, with tue view of getting the com mon transferred to the Counci,.
From Mr. Christophers, Secretary to the School Committee, asking the use of the Town Hall on Boxing xSight, for the purpose of giving an amateur entertainment in aid of the Seh >ol funds Tnc Town Clerk was instructed to inform Mr. Christophers that tlie Council would granthis request, provided no application for renting the hall for that uinht was made and that, should any such application he made, the School Committee, on paymeutuf the usual rent, would have the preference. Accounts to tlie amount of £45 17s. 3d, were passed for payment.
Two tenders for the erection of two rooms at the rear of the Town Hall were received. Mr. J. U. Cambridge offered to do the whole of the work for £165, and Mr. Holloway’s tender for the masonry and plastering amounted to£43 los. The matter was ordered to stand over till the next meeting. The Mayor brought before the Council a scheme for supplying the town with water by bunging the race round the terrace at a higher level than at present, and constructing a reservoir, fiom which the water eon d be brought into the streets hy means of pipes. He said that the Council would have between £OOO and £7OO to spend during the ensuing year, and that, if they had not sufficient money to carry out the scheme, they would have no difficulty in borrowing a few hundreds. After some conversation it was resolved, on the motion of CT. Patterson seconded by Cr. Hueston that £4OO sho"ld be set aside for the construction of the proposed works. A Committee consisting of the Mayor ami Crs. Welsford, Clark, and Patterson, was appointed to take preliminary steps in the matter. Cr. Welsford suggested that the large stones in the lower end of the streets should be removed. The matter was left over till next meeting. Cr. Hues ton drew the attention of the Council to the state of the Town-Hall roo r , remarking that, if the leakage was not stopped at once, the ceiling would be destroyed. 'lhe Public Works Committee were requested to take immediate action to prevent the threatened damage. The Town Clerk was instructed to advertise for tenders forrentingthe Town-Hall during the evenings of the Race week. There heingno other business the Council adjourned.
